Setting Up a Custom Domain with Namecheap

This guide will help you connect your custom domain from Namecheap to Shortly using an A record. With this setup, you can use your branded domain for short links.

Prerequisites

  • A domain registered with Namecheap.
  • Access to your Namecheap account.
  • DNS management enabled for your domain.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Log In to Your Namecheap Account

  1. Visit Namecheap and log in to your account.
  2. Navigate to the Domain List section from your dashboard.
  3. Locate your domain and click the Manage button on the right.

2. Add an A Record to Point to Shortly

  1. In the Manage Domain page, go to the Advanced DNS tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Host Records section.
  3. Add a new A record with the following details:
    • Type: A Record
    • Host: @ (to point the root domain) or a specific subdomain (e.g., short).
    • Value: 63.176.184.65
    • TTL: Leave as the default (Automatic or 1 min).
  4. Save your changes.

Note: To redirect both yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com, add an additional A record with Host set to www and the same IP address.

3. Verify Your Domain in Shortly

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin account.
  2. Open the Shortly app from your Apps section.
  3. In the Shortly app, navigate to the Custom Domain option in the sidebar.
  4. Enter your custom domain (e.g., yourdomain.com without the protocol such as http:// or https://) and click save.
  5. If the domain is correctly configured, it will display as active in the app.
